Helpful tutorials for a newbie?

  1. T

    Hello!

I just started using Bonsai and shift from traditional architectural 3D to BIM and creating IFC files. I am very proficient in Blender, but I am struggling to get my BIM workflow going. Also, my colleagues who used Revit or Archicad say that Bonsai looks very different.

Would you have some tutorials and articles to recommend that take you by the hand in creating a BIM model of a building? Or would someone be available to help out? I need to add all structural details as well as HVAC, the plot with all the GEO details and electrical plans.

Thank you so much in advance for your support! :)

I think @theoryshaw and @Massimo might be interested in offering their services

or you were looking for something totally free?

@tessafk well, i suggest you to start with the IfcArchitect tutorials in order to understand how Bonsai works in general.

They are maybe a bit oudated because things are changing fast but the concepts are the same.

Btw, for the architectural and structural domain, Bonsai is enough mature but for HVAC domain i think it's not developed at the same level...it's like an unexplored territory, but the tools are there.

It depends what are you need to do actually.

I suggest you also to join the chat, it is very helpful.

just want to confirm what @Massimo posted above

for HVAC specifically you can lay out ductwork segments, with some level of quality you can have bends and logically connect all by IfcPort, for more accurate job with Tees and Wyes you'd need to be a bit creative

Yeah, connections and ports can be done...also the logical relations with every objects (IfcSystem i guess).

About electrican domain, on the other hand, i've never seen nothing, but i would be happy to be denied

as exchanged in a different Discussion Electrical can be done, with some limitations, along with Plumbing system, both to some extent.

Segments (pipes, conduits, trays) are OK, fittings not so (elbows, tees, wyes...) but a general arrangement can be created with system definition and flows source > sink

If familiar with 3D modeling, and some good patience & perseverance, someone can reach decent level of representation.
