Reuse and disassembly in Construction : from Abyss to Zen

  1. M

    Let's start this gaping discussion about the reuse and deconstruction of our built environment and how it fits into our open source approach !

    Here we focus on adaptive reuse and components/elements/materials reuse as part of a circular economy model for construction.

    <br />

    As this is a very broad and complex topic, this first post provides a list of references and links to be completed as we go along. Feel free to share your expertise and contribute ! Perhaps we can reuse this base later for the wiki.

    Thank you all for keeping the discussion constructive

    As a first step, I've proposed to add a REUSE and DISASSEMBLE tag to the Element Status for IFC 4.4 , so we can later develop specific workflows and operators for these type of projects.

    What do you think ?

    One company is Protector Build

    https://protectorbuild.co.za/

    They are a salvage and construction company in Johannesburg South Africa, I've used them in real jobs and they have saved me lots of money and I know the materials are being reused, so feels good.

    Another more incredible example is the Mezimbite Forest Center near Dondo, Mozambique

    started/headed by a guy name Alan Schwars

    The take cradle to grave very seriously and is one of the only working example of truly holistic construction I know of.

    I'm so surprised these tags don't already exist, that's an essential start!
