[Navisworks] Cracking Exports !

    Navisworks is sort of a showstopper when it comes to your data flow. A lot goes in as import but nothing comes out easy. The options you have are: kmz, fbx as Open standards. I am trying exports from both in the Autodesk ecosystem of available programms. Results sofar

    Import in Navisworks : 2 IFC models (piping) 2x100 MB

    Export => FBX binary => FBX201900=> 128 MB => unable to load anything anywhere

    Export => FBX ACII=> FBX20100=> 640 MB=>something happens in AutoCAD, nothing displayed.

    Export => FBX ACII=> FBX20100=> 640 MB =>import in Blender 500 MB file =>where is it?

    Export => KMZ=> 55 MB =>import in AutoCAD MAP 3D => showing some options => nothing => where is it?

    Any advice or experiences?

    I would like to crack Navisworks output.

    The FBX exporter should at least work.. @Autodesk?

    You can also use the Dynaworks dynamo package to manage a navisworks model in Dynamo.

    You don't need Revit for this, Dynaworks works in DynamoSandbox.

    Dynamo sandbox: https://dynamobuilds.com/ select the latest CoreRuntime, extract, run DynamoSandbox.exe. Dynamo is open source, except for the nodes inside it: https://github.com/DynamoDS/Dynamo

    You can download Dynaworks in the built-in package manager, select a version according to your Navisworks version, e.g. Dynaworks20 for Navisworks 2020.

    I just made a quick graph which creates Dynamo geometry from a selection set in Navisworks. After this you can export it to various formats supported by dynamo: sat by default, mix, obj, dae, ply with the MeshToolkit package, other exporter packages may exist.

    I've struggled a lot with Navisworks too. Just never export as DWF. Once you go DWF, it's a dead-end. Autodesk seems to have designed it such that things export to DWF, but not from.

    In my daily work, I've had success with FBX, which is then opened with Rhino. Blender can open the FBX, but the FBXes are usually created in an incredibly messy and broken way that Blender seems to give up on. Rhino, though it is not free software, is actually quite a robust file converter tool.

    I did not yet get anything useful out of this work called Navis. Fbx or kmz. Filesizes vary so much. 500 mb versus 50 mb. That tells a story without even trying. I was told Naviswork was designed as "the last stop".

    What kind of data- software philosophy is that??! I did read that it got a Engine update from the Forge initiative

    Maybe the exports options are taken in consideration as well? Did try it yet. Massive downloads of course.

    @magicalcloud_75 Navisworks is the second last stop. Autodesk Design Review (DWF) is the real last stop. Once you hit there, good luck getting absolutely anything at all :)

    It is an unethical software philosophy.

    I'm opening the floor for pre-alpha contributions for stress testing, having created a Navisworks -> Speckle exporter.

    This is the last phase of testing before releasing NavisworksSpeckle for community alpha testing.

    I know this is an old thread, but THE NEED IS REAL !! :D
