DXF documentation

Hi there, I was shared this great piece of writing about the Open Standard DXF The true (by definition) open CAD format. DXF is now getting some more attention now that thoghts of transparant data use is driving the AEC industry. There is much that can be learned looking at the histroy of DXF when IFC is discussed in my opinion. What I was thinking when reading this, is that that 3D object capabilities in DXF definiotions could use more writing and documentation. Can't Blender Bim can export and import DXF 3D like it can with IFC?

Therefore i think the Arch wiki is a good best place to do this and share some thoughts about it. We could start a DXF wiki post the same way i did for IFC in DWG. Anyone? Good / bad?

From my own experience with dxf import, it is not always as safe as one can expect, and often throw errors.

Importer does provide many options to re-structure / handle / georeference data, defaults are not safe so may be hard to figure working one.

As side note, Autodesk managed to break open standard by exporting some "AEC" entity in undocumented parametric form.

Due to the half precision nature of blender you can't import georeferenced models, and must center on world to avoid precision issues, tools like CloudCompare are handy for such operations.

I'm planning to tidy up that front page as I think it's a bit of a mess - but the beauty of the wiki is that you can add stuff and it'll get tidied up eventually. What's I'd suggest is a page called [[Drawing Exchange Format]] or [[Drawing Exchange Format (DXF)]] on https://wiki.osarch.org/index.php?title=AEC_Open_Data_Standards_Directory

The Drawing Exchange Format page can grow to include more information over time.

I'm happy to support DXF as an open CAD format, definitely as an alternative to DWG. Blender's DXF import/export has also been a little hit and miss from my experience.

In my personal endeavors, I'd like to continue pursuing SVG as a future format :)
