IFC Element Not Found (Wall)

  1. S

    unlink element after load project

  2. T

Best, for troubleshooting, to upload the IFC here, as well.

I guess i'm not following what your asking. Can you provide more info, and the steps you took.

What did you do? what did you expect?, etc.

  5. S

I created the wall in native IFC, then I reloaded the project suddenly the wall was not native IFC. how to return the wall to native IFC again...?

  6. T

Unfortunately i don't think you can. Does this happen a lot?

BlenderBIM can be glitchy at times. If it's happens consistently, please let us know the steps you did to recreate.

  7. T

you might be able to do it this way, but you'd have to reapply the 'voids'.

  8. S

The problem is not the wall but the marked wall, not all walls have problems

Loading provided .ifc the wall is already gone from ifc, so it's stored only in the .blend. You can assign it IfcWall class but it won't act like a typical BlenderBIM wall, so it's better to just redo it.

It looks like you added a wall, then saved .blend without saving .ifc (I guess it's still possible if you go to "File -> Save") and then reopened .blend file, therefore wall wasn't saved to IFC. If it's some other issue - any ideas how to reproduce it?

It happened to me too. I created a IfcSlab at the beginning of a test project. Then I began to test some walls, windows, columns, element status, etc. I never modified any preferences or settings for the IfcSlab.

Suddenly the Slab lost its Ifc metadata attributes and now the Slab has the IFC Element Not Found message. I always saved with the CTRL+S shortcut, so both .ifc and .blender were saved.

If I create a new default blender cube, in the Object metadata panel I can assign the IFC Product/Class/Predefined type/Context attributes. But if I select the existing Slab, these options do not show.

I cannot say what actions I did to lose the IFC, because I noticed the missing after many tests on other elements. Perhaps a glitch?

    I am using 231027 BBIM.

EDIT: I noticed now that if I TAB the Slab it shows as a triangulated mesh on all the faces. It does not shows the usual editable polygon to extrude.

I don't understand why I'm not able to make this blender mesh into an IfcElement.

Could someone else give it a try please, I've attached the .blend file.

  12. C

Could someone please explain this behaviour, why doesn't the IfcElement menu pop up when I select this mesh? But it does for the standard blender cube?

If you click on the 'unlink' icon, does it allow you to assign?

@Coen, also too, if you're trying to maintain the .blend/.ifc file sync, you have to share both the .ifc file and .blend file, for others to troubleshoot. If it's only the .blend file, we can't recreate your problem, as all the .ifc data is not associated anymore.

    @theoryshaw

    Thanks for your help.

It's not that I am trying to keep a sync, I really just wanted to make a simple mesh into an IFC element starting an IFCproject from scratch in Blender, hence why I've added the .blend file.

@gotcha, in that case, does this work?...

    or this?

    ...

Curious, how was this geometry brought into the file, in the first place? Was it copy/pasted from another .ifc/.blend session?

Yes, exactly what I did, are you on a developer version perhaps?

at 0:24 on this clip I see you have no problems unlinking that object, It did nothing when I clicked it. Maybe I made some other mistake. We'll never know, but it works now
