Hey all! Creative Freedom Summit https://creativefreedomsummit.com/ has a call for proposals (25min or 50min virtual event sessions).
I've submitted one with the intention of doing a much more informal, live demo type session as opposed to the manicured 20-slides per second scripted presentations I usually do.
What do you reckon @yorik about presenting about FreeCAD and maybe @brunopostle (IFC Git? Homemaker?) or @topologic ?
Free software and open data standards in architecture, engineering, and construction
A short, informal demonstration of using free software IfcOpenShell and the BlenderBIM Add-on to design, engineer, construct, and operate our built environment. You will see:
- What, what? Blender is used in the construction of nuclear power plants?
- What do open data structures look like for architects, engineers, construction professionals and facility operators.
- What free software options are out there, what we're good at, what we're not so good at, and where we're headed.
Looking for those curious about / new to free software in the AECO industry as an interactive session. Only 10 minutes of casual slides, and 15 minutes of live demo + live Q&A.

@Moult I'll help in any way I can

@brunopostle what do you think about presenting yourself? I think there's a huge amount of content to discuss around Git for designers vs programmers, Git for large but meaningful text, visualising changes and merges, the various intricacies and nuances of Git's implementation... you're the best person to talk about it :)

I can, especially if you are overbooked. I'm not very good at demoing BlenderBIM in general, but I can show the Git features

@Moult intending to do a proposal on git for designers, can I see your proposal so I'm not overlapping?

@brunopostle awesome! My proposal is in the original post. I will be sure not to mention Git at all.

It looks like I'm demoing the BlenderBIM IFC git functionality at this Creative Freedom Summit on Tuesday 23rd Jan. I only have 25 minutes, so should be able to demo cloning, branching, merging and maybe a pull request. @Moult I see that you are not presenting so I may need a very quick summary of BlenderBIM to start with!

Ah wow I did actually get an email but it got lost in the tsunami of holiday mail. I've asked them if there is still a chance to present, but if not, it might be worth spending 5 minutes drawing a quick building using the demo library and generating a drawing :)

Will do something, maybe thirty seconds on "who is BIM, where is IFC and why is BlenderBIM?", that should be enough ;)
Haven't had much experience of drawing generation as this is all broken with the version of opencascade in fedora.

Presentation is on Tuesday, I'd like to demo a pull-request (or more than one). I was going to use this small project and mess around with some furniture, doors etc.. create and merge local branches.
So I'm asking for pull-requests, fork this repository and maybe add an extension, or a dungeon, or something small like change a bedroom into a studio - leave me some space to demo some live changes that won't conflict :) @theoryshaw, anyone?

Is that directed at me? :)
I figured others could keep the train rolling, and use my modifications, and provide their own modification on top of it... and so forth, and so on.
Would be fun to watch the design evolve over time.

@theoryshaw no I meant others. Thanks @Massimo that pull request is very useful, I can use it to illustrate merging multiple changes in the same wall.
