FreeCAD 1.0 - models for splashscreen request

  1. M

    Hi there !

Hope you are all having a great summer (or winter) time !

As you may be aware, the famous FreeCAD 1.0 release will be out soon !

To prepare its Release Candidate, the Design Group (a team of developers, designers and user focusing on user experience, interaction and interface in FreeCAD) is organizing a selection of models to feature on the future final splashscreens, displayed in a random fashion at each launch, such as below:

It aims to promote the capabilities of the software and also the work of its community by showcasing impressive projects. Therefore, we would be pleased to also include 2-3 examples of the build environment field from members of the OS-Arch community. Whether current or past projects, infrastructure works, heritage conservation, urban planning, landscape, construction details, building services or energy analysis, all proposals are welcome !

Please observe some simple rules :

    • the model are produced mainly in FreeCAD. Some back and forth with Bonsai/BlenderBIM is ok I suppose.

    • you are the author or part of the author team, and have explicit rights to publish and distribute under an open license (e.g. CC-BY-SA). Please indicate how you want to be credited and attributed (project and author names). Please remove any proprietary content if any beforehand.

    • the model files are in FCStd format. IFC files are ok too. You are most welcome to produce the model illustration as well, in order to best highlight the specificity and qualities of your project, by choosing the representation mode (solid, shadow, wireframe), colours, view, etc. We can also produce the images on your behalf if you prefer.

The submissions are open until around mid-September, as it may be too late after that to make into the final Release.

Thank you very much. At your disposal for any question.

    Cheers !

Please note we are looking for other examples than the ones posted here.

    1. Is there a submission link?

    2. I hope you will include some of our freecad classic models.

    Hi !

    @bitacovir :

    1. Is there a submission link?

The files can be sent in any way you prefer (here, git repo, online hosting, etc.) The discussion within the Design Group happens on FreeCAD's Discord server, in "UX-Topics" > "Splashscreens for 1.0". The Pull Request happens on GitHub.

    1. I hope you will include some of our freecad classic models.

Are you referring to the link in my message above ? Although these recreations are top quality, we would like to highlight "original" projects from the community which haven't yet received widespread recognition.

    Hi there !

Small update on the FreeCAD 1.0 release schedule : the first Release Candidate (RC1) has been tagged and build are available now.

Please do test and report any crash, regression or bug the "usual" way (look for similar issues already reported on the forum or GitHub tracker first, if not create a new issue with the reproduction steps or a macro if you can, a simple example file, your system info from Help > About > Copy to clipboard, a debug backtrace in case of crashes if you can, etc.)

If you want to submit a project artwork to be featured on the splashscreen, it is still possible and for a few more weeks before the final release.

    Thank you !

    Hi @paullee

    Yeah, I agree, it's a bit confusing.

The "weekly build" (automatically built actually every 3 days) tracks the "main" branch, whereas the RC1 is built from the "releases/FreeCAD-1-0" one. The most recent "weekly" builts just happened to be based on a very close commit to the RC1; it will change in a few days.

To make it somewhat more confusing, both branches had received the commit "Core: Update version number to 1.0.0RC1" =D

The situation will be clearer once 1.0 is out and development continues on "main" (1.1 dev or whatever the name chosen) and "1-0" receives only bugfixes.

    @marcuspollio I downloaded the 1.0.0 RC1, in Help... it is 1.0.0. RC1, OK.

I then try the 'Weekly Build', it is still tag as 1.0.0. RC1 ...?

    Hi !

Little update on FreeCAD 1.0 : the second Release Candidate is now out.

With almost two hundred commits more compared to RC1, mostly bugfixes, and the number of "Blockers" nearing zero (10 at the moment), the final Release is getting closer and closer =D

It is likely there will be a third release candidate tho.

Please keep testing and reporting any crash or major issue you come across. Thank you

@paullee Version number have been updated meanwhile. Let me know if you still have issues =P
