IFC standardization: how it works? (organization, development, working groups, etc)

  1. S

    Hi,

I'm still rather new to the IFC specification and I want to know how it is actually organized? E.g. how are decisions taken regarding the technical specification of the IFC standard (structure, element, relation or any other object definitions, etc).

Here are a few general questions I'm currently asking myself:

    • are there for example standardization working groups with a common annual schedule, planned meetings, etc?

    • what are the prerequisites and procedure to join such group?

    • are there some material on past meetings (e.g. minutes, videos), ideally with an history of changes?

    • how might someone suggest new tracks to explore, particularly for those having specific industrial/business needs or use cases that are now far from 100% satisfied by the state of the specification currently in force?

    • are there existing (or planned) discussions or working groups with other standardization institutions (e.g. W3C, ISO, IEEE, OGC, The Khronos Group)?

    • are there discussion channels (git{hub, lab}, Slack, Discord, whatever) ?

Thank you very much for any helpful hints.
