    Hi @Jesusbill here's some suggestions

We official cancel the monthly meetup 3rd January. Anyone who turns up can just have a chat.

Here's some ideas for upcomming topics:

    First and foremost:

    https://twitter.com/ViegasGonzalez from IFC.js https://osarch.org/2020/12/21/a-new-browser-ifc-viewer-is-released-in-ifc-js/

We have a story on our front page and he has been getting good retweets on Twitter.

    • We ask members of https://github.com/opencax/GSoC if they would like to give a talk on bringing new developers into projects and GSoC (maybe @yorik could do that, but it would be nice to hear form one of the others)

    • We ask the two main devs of LibreCAD if they would like to share their thoughts on the state and future of FOSS 2D CAD. ( @Moult and I have some contact with them)

    • We ask the main developer of LibreDWG if he would like to share his thoughts on the state and development of DWG support in Free software (I have some contact with him)

    • Someone from OpenProject

I would like to hear a talk about the integration of free software in proprietary workflows. Maybe one of these topics:

I'm personally interested on their perspective on opening up the commercial players to free software and how they see the role of free software in a commercial setting.

  4. M

I have a contact from OpenProject. I'll reach out to see if they're interested in doing a monthly meetup presentation :)

Happy to cancel the 3rd Jan Meetup.

Hi @duncan, thanks for the optimal proposals and sorry for the radio silence of the last couple of weeks, I had been very busy at work with deadlines for the end of year. Here are my thoughts:

    • For the meetup of January we had actually agreed in the beginning of November to hold it one week later on the 9th/10th. My idea at that time was that it could be a meetup with 10-minutes slots for informal presentations by some of the members and to start with the keynotes from February and on. I wonder, though, if Antonio González Viegas would have the time and the availability to talk about IFC.js that looks so interesting. In theory, we still have time to publicize the event.

@agviegas - would you like to present IFC.js on January's meetup on the 9th @ 20:00 UTC? If you think it is too soon no worries, let me know and we can start planning it for the following ones.

    • For the meetup of February Cyril had proposed two topics. @Cyril - do you have or can you get an update/confirmation for February's keynote presentation?

    • For all the other proposals, including @Moult's notification about DESsim are all valid and interesting and we should pursue them, the dates are open for March and on

Yes. On our side we confirm that we booked the February meeting date.

Yes, absolutely. The library is still on early development phase (it can't load any IFC file yet), but I can present the current functionalities, show further steps and answer to any question / suggestion. What length / format do you have in mind for the presentation?

    This is fantastic!

We have no hard rules, we aim to keep the presentation + discussion length within the 1 hour limit but it all depends then on the interest of the audience. Presentation can be slides, hands-on use of the software, and anything usable with screen sharing. I think the main points you identified sound very good to cover.

@Jesusbill you're right about moving the date, I forgot that, and neither the wiki nor this thread mentioned it. The wiki is still not updated, I suggest it's best Ioannis that you are the person who keeps dates and times updated on the wiki, even while other people do other parts of that page. https://wiki.osarch.org/index.php?title=Monthly_Meetup

Can I suggest that the February topic also be written into the wiki page?

  11. J

You are absolutely right @duncan , I have now taken care of the wiki page and made the announcement for the meetup.

Cyril, I have added a short description for February's event (copy-pasted your input), feel free to make any changes, or give them to me, as you see more appropriate.

I've been testing BigBlueButton with @agviegas and my son and we think it is f*n great. We found a whiteboard function that didn't quite work on the demo we tested but the rest works brilliantly. I'll be testing a different demo server soon. I've spoken to them and they'd be willing to sell us an account for $30 / month with 6 month binding. I'm wondering if we should make a shared FOSS projects account for the use of all our projects. That might get funds to cover a paid account... but that's a different discussion.

so I'm testing their demo server

Here's a quick intro, just seven minutes, let's show people that FOSS video conferencing is possible! ZOOM must die!

@Jesusbill would you like to get an account on osarch.org so you can submit new monthly meetup events to https://osarch.org/events/ ? Whenever an event is submitted, all OSArch subscribers will also receive an email notification, so it is a good way to publicise as well. If you let me know your preferred user / pass / email via PM I can set up an account for you. It's a standard Wordpress setup so it should be pretty simple to use but I can give you a tour if you wish of the backend!

Because the previous recording didn't work out Antonio has agreed to present IFC.js again.

Presentation on IFC.js with developer Antonio González Viegas

    Where: online at https://bigbluebutton.webhostingzone.org/b/dun-gxe-gyz-anq

    When: Saturday 23rd January, 21:00 CET, https://everytimezone.com/s/a3c22a96

IFC.js is a free/libre library for generating geometry from [[Industry Foundation Classes (IFC)|IFC data] with customizable aspect, including color, transparencies, edges and more. Because IFC.js is browser based and 100% Javascript and runs on the client side, not depending on servers, it is very lightweight. You can use this as an efficient IFC parser or as a whole IFC viewer to build your BIM app.

Hi everybody, some updates on the meetups:

    • The announcement for the meetup of February 6 will be posted later today. @Cyril I will use the description we already have. If you think there are any changes needed, let me know. Also, is there any image we can use for the social media post?

    • @gonzalocasas has agreed to present COMPAS in the upcoming meetup of March 6! Very exciting, thank you.

    • We are free to book other key presentations for April and on. Proposed suggestions include: OpenProject, GSoC, LibreCAD/LibreDWG, Speckle, , DESsim, PyRevit, Rhino.inside. How can we organize this? Should we make direct proposals for a specific month to specific candidates?

Please allow me to prepare something this weekend. It will be ready for Monday (at least for the energy part)

    hey @Jesusbill,

I have prepared an image, we can use this for youtube thumbnail and social media posts. open for your comments. here it is:

  19. C

@Jesusbill Here it is. There is multiple images and text. Feel free to choose what you like (some are attached because they are in svg format).

    BIMaps.io

BIMaps.io is an open source platform to manage BIM data including all aspects with a simple and powerful interface.

Web technologies and mobile usages are at core of the platform.

Flexible data, 3D viewer with dynamic styles, BCF, geometric and data checker are built in.

    BIMxBEM

Despite existence of dozens of scientific projects, studies and articles on how to use BIM for building energy modeling (BEM) this topic is not solved for various reasons.

This project aim to retrieve building data from IFC. Process it than adapt data to local standards. Send processed data to energy analysis software. Get feedback through IFC and/or BCF.

I agreed with @Jesusbill that we'll stick with Jitsi Meet for now. It would be great if someone could help by making a backup screen recording for the session.

Maybe this addon for the browser can be useful for recording: https://recordrtc.org/

Available in the chrome web store

  23. M

Just tested, and yes, I can indeed start a meeting at that link.

Re trolls in the video meet:

In answer to @JanF in a different thread after we had two polite but real trolls in our last meeting (it was quite funny, that kept changing their name to JanF and then muting me and changing their name again - so I thought it was actually JanF doing it!) We need a solution where we have some moderation powers. I tested the FSF instance of jitsi meet with @Moult and I think the two of us suggest using that in future - but it has no integrated recording functions. So @Jesusbill would need to agree and make an arrangement for one or two people to do screen capture. I guess ideally the first part should be captured from the presenters screen so the quality is optimal - but that brings its own issues.

I've also tested the integration of Jitsi inside an element.io room. Everything works, but the chat is missing in jitsi and only available in the room. This mean that guests can watch the video and not use the chat. To use the chat you need to be logged in. So I don't like that solution (although I think we should use it for day-to-day chat and video.)

My recommendation: we in future use the FSF Jitsi room. This is the link: https://jitsi.member.fsf.org/osarch if you are a FSF member please test if you can start a meeting at that link.
