    Estru3D https://sourceforge.net/projects/estru3d/

    GNU General Public License version 3.0 (GPLv3)

    Program for structural analysis using the Stiffness Matrix Method. It has its own graphical interface and full GUI. Now being translated to English. It is developed in Gambas3 basic only. The same author of GauchoCAD.

    .

    Here a video about estru3D and virtual reality.

    @bitacovir awesome! Just added to the wiki. Would love to hear @Jesusbill 's thoughts on it.

    @duncan yes, I believe it should be in the list under the GIS category.

    @bitacovir this presents an interesting question - Godot is not on the list currently. Do we include game engine tech? What about VR/AR tech, which is sort of related too? It's kind of an auxiliary discipline, though it is increasingly being used especially in marketing and client engagement. What do you guys reckon? If so, it probably needs its own category, like "Real time visualisation engines, VR, and AR".

  7. R

    Yes !!, dont disregard the guy in the office bringing new work! that guy is using

    your BIM model (and in the very same software) he or she is setting camera views/camera paths,

    to create clips, and probably later edited in IMOVIE or else to seek a new job....

    The true is that this architectural endeavor doesnt stop there! if enough time AND MONEY the she/he

    is taking your model to UE, TM or Lumion, etc for a killer presentation, ... we need the tools to sell first so we can have a project , IMHO

  8. D

    @Moult @rakela like with so many other things here it's a matter of effort and making a good structure. The wiki is there for anyone to work on.

    Hi to everyone,

    I'm Riccardo from Italy and I use mainly open source for all my works.

    I find myself in a lot of software that you have mentioned!

    I'd like to share my experience with OpenProject. In my office we use the open source community edition ( GNU General Public License version 3 https://github.com/opf/openproject-ce ) in our server since 2017: I think it is a complete sofware for high-level project management, when you need to manage a large team and a great complexity. The latest versions are fixing some old issues.

    I underline that, although it is not open source, they have started to create in paid versions a tight integration with the ifc format for the management of bim projects that could be very interesting for architecture and engineering studies: https://www.openproject.org/bim-project-management/

    I am not aware of such integrated management systems.

    Happy new year!

    Riccardo

    JuPedSim https://www.jupedsim.org/

    Open source framework for simulating, analyzing and visualizing pedestrian dynamics

    GNU Lesser General Public License v3 or later version

    MASSIS http://www.massisframework.com/

    MASSIS is a software framework that facilitates the simulation of scenarios with multiple agents (representing people, robots, sensors, etc.) in indoor environments (i.e., inside a building).

    GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE Version 3

    It looks nice, I would like to try it but I have problems installing the Gambas development environment needed.

    The Direct Stiffness Method implemented is the basic "linear" method of structural analysis, which is fine for typical code-based verifications.

  12. M

    @Rickyx do you know why their BIM module is not open source? Is it because they are using Xeokit? If so, we should prioritise people testing and improving IFC.JS as well as BIMSurfer, so that people don't need to be locked into a proprietary environment.

    @magicalcloud_75

    thanks for sharing link to BricsCAD Shape ! I had to install the entire BricsCAD package to use Shape but very very nice ! thanks again... BricsCAD is not free tho! but not very expensive either.

  15. R

    @Moult yes, as I wrote, that part is not open source.

    The overall project is open and you can install on your server except the bim part: it may be used for project management with or without the closed part.

    BimSurfer and Ifc.js, if I understand correctly, are viewer / inspector. I would classify them in two different sections!

    Ciao,

    Riccardo

    I suggest to split Analysis and Simulation group into sub-lists: Structural, Energy, Environmental, Traffic (cars, pedestrian)...

  18. B

    @duncan

    Is it ok to split split Analysis and Simulation group into sub-lists: Structural, Energy, Environmental, Traffic (cars, pedestrian)...?

  19. M

    @bitacovir go for it!

  20. D

    @bitacovir I've thought about this but the problem is that several packages cover several types of analysis. I think the best would be if they all had their own pages on the wiki and then were added to categories according to all the types of analysis they can perform. Maybe a part solutions would be to make 'tags' at the bottom of the descriptions. All we would need to do for that is agree on the list of tags and stick to them.

    If we made a list what would the fixed categories be? @Cyril you might have some thoughts here.

    @bitacovir also, please, if you don't want to add software to the directory yourself, please add them here: https://wiki.osarch.org/index.php?title=Talk:AEC_Free_Software_directory

    It's truly a pain the arse coming back to this thread and searching through it for software that has not yet been added. Much easier if you add it to that talk page. Of course you can also mention it here so people can discuss it.

    @duncan said:

    A categorized list (as summary) in a single link is the best way to show ad share this information. Parallelly you can have individual wiki pages, but only if you have new content to add for each software. Wiki pages with duplicated info from the software web pages is redundant...

    I already added the projects to the directory. I always do. But also I like to put them here in this thread for shearing new findings with the community.

    How do you suggest we solve the problem of some packages fitting into several categories - no matter what those categories are?

    For the case of Finite Element Method software, that are used for structural, thermal, fluid dynamic, etc. we can just keep them in a list with that wide title. Like I already did:

    Analysis and Simulation Directory

    • MESH GENERATOR AND SCIENTIFIC DATA VISUALISATION

    • STRUCTURAL, THERMAL AND CFD ANALYSIS

    • ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS

    • ENERGY ANALYSIS

    • TRAFFIC AND PEDESTRIAN ANALYSIS

    I think we can create a VR/AR sub-list in Visualisation and Documentation Directory

    No sure about Game Engines. It is not a popular tool for AEC. It is more experimental, I think...

  24. M

    @bitacovir go for it - if after the reorganisation it becomes worse, we can undo and rethink. If not, we've got results!

  25. D

    What we've done before is do the reorganisation on a different page to try it out. That's also a possibility.
