I vote for IfcOpenStudio - it emphasizes that it's part of IfcOpenShell set of tools and similarity with IfcOpenShell reflects that it's the same tools as IfcOpenShell but with UI.
There is a bit of a caveat with using "ifc" in the name since we're already working with some other formats like bcf and probably will be working with more formats in the future (IfcOpenShell itself has a similar discrepancy) but it should be okay since the focus is on IFC either way.

I second BIMForge. Easy, simple, mnemonic, generic

I love IfcStudio as it describes what the software actually does, but it seems to be taken :(
my favorite:
IfcStudio and IfcBIM
I think IfcStudio is quite cool, too. It nails pretty much what the tool does right now, is short and comprehensive.
Would not worry about changing the Bunny. It’s not related to the “BlenderBim Add on” name and can easily be used with any name.
From a marketing point of view, it makes sense to think about the target audience for a second:
• If the target group is technically interested people like the current user group, it’s awesome.
• If the product should also attract other people, that are simply looking for a powerful modelling tool, we might find a more catchy one. But attracting these people at scale would require further measures and substantial marketing efforts, which is most likely not going to happen in the near future anyway, right?
To make it short: my vote goes to IfcStudio

hi @Moult
@manuvarkey hey that's a really good idea, it also helps connote that IfcOpenShell is for devs, and IfcOpenStudio is for graphical users
100% Yes, please add me to the IfcOpenStudio group :)

Eventhough I like BimWorks, I think it is too similar to https://bim.works/
I support IfcOpenStudio
I would not choose a name that contains BIM. (As already discussed in this thread)

I thought that IfcBIM Add-on would be a good choice to take over the name of BlenderBIM Add-on, but IfcOpenStudio is also good.

@BenSmith @brunopostle and @MaxV please update your votes to IfcOpenStudio IfcStudio will not work, because there is already a tool called like that.

OpenStudio is a registered trademark, if they chose to defend this against IfcOpenStudio then they would probably win - ie. this name is a problem unless we can be sure there is no objection.

+1 for IfcOpenStudio... also it could be IfcAECStudio (or only AECStudio) if there are problems with OpenStudio.
Actually i like also BIM AddOn or BBim AddOn because it needs less work to do and enhance that it is a (blender) add on...

OpenStudio is a FOSS project for building energy simulation:
It would be very confusing to use a very similar name from the same industry, aside the possible trademark violation.
Other name options which are similar to existing things in the AECO world:
-
BIMForge, IfcForge:
The old name of Autodesk Platform Services was Forge, a lot of people still call it that way:
-
IfcWorks, BimWorks:
Nemetchek have 2 *Works software, VectorWorks and BraceWorks, I would expect IfcWorks is related to them:
I vote for the simple BIM, or maybe IfcOpenSuite, IfcSuite or IfcOpenShell . The last one is already a known brand in a way.

I like IfcOpenStudio.
I also think there needs to be some consideration for how infrastructure fits in. I know there isn't any infrastructure UI and authoring features yet, but will they be part of the same UI? Will the UI play nicely with the building UI? I don't have answers.
If there is a chance that buildings and infra need different spaces for logical UIs, the I can see the entire enterprise evolving into something like:
Then perhaps the Blender add-in becomes two or more.
Maybe IfcOpen____Studio is a good base name and it is customized by domain by "filling in the blank":
IfcOpenBuildingStudio (IfcOpenArchitectureStudio??)
IfcOpenRoadStudio
IfcOpenBridgeStudio
IfcOpenTunnelStudio
IfcOpenRailStudio
.... and keep filling in the blank as the open source nerds take over the world

BBim (but bbim .org is already used for a b&b located in missouri)
IfcOpenStudio (or IfcStudio) if not BBim

Actually maybe just IfcOpenShell Add-On ? It clarifies that it is a (blender) add-on based on IfcOpenShell library and it doesn't need so much rebranding i guess...
